As an Auckland wedding photographer, I get to witness a wide range of wedding styles, but Charlee and Ben’s masquerade beach wedding was in a league of its own. With masks, music, sunshine, and even a food fight—it was a celebration that didn’t follow the rules, and that’s exactly what made it so special.

Held on a picture-perfect sunny day, the entire wedding was a true labour of love. Every detail was DIY—crafted, painted, or arranged by Charlee, Ben, and their closest people. From hand-decorated masks to homemade signage and florals, you could feel how much heart went into every part of it.

The couple exchanged vows by the beach, surrounded by sun, sea, and friends in disguise. Afterward, we snuck away to the old Victoria Battery Factory for portraits—a place full of history, rusted textures, and moody shadows that contrasted beautifully with the beach ceremony vibe.

Their reception was held at the Cow Shed, a charming rustic venue that matched their laid-back yet creative energy. But this wasn’t your typical reception. For guests who didn’t mind getting a little messy, Charlee and Ben arranged an actual food fight. Yes—dessert in the face, frosting in the hair, and laughter echoing through the barn. It was glorious.

One of the most jaw-dropping moments came when Charlee changed into a black gown with a dark red cape for the evening—looking every bit the gothic queen as the sun set behind her. And just when we thought the day couldn’t get more personal, she surprised Ben by singing a song she had written just for him. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room.

This day was the perfect mix of heartfelt, hilarious, and totally unique—exactly what a wedding should be. For me as an Auckland wedding photographer, it was such a joy to capture a day that was so unapologetically them.
Charlee and Ben—thank you for the wild, beautiful ride.
