The design process is so much fun, First off, Anita sketches the design for you.
From the sketch, you pick your base fabric and Anita takes all your measurements. Anita had a few different fabrics to chose from but recommended a specific one to me as it went well with the fuller skirt I wanted, and also had a bit of stretch to accomodate my shape. The process began about 1 and 1/2 months out from my wedding date.
The first few photos are of the lining of the dress inside out, Anita is ensuring the fit on me is correct and we are happy with the shape.
From there, the gown is built! I came in to try the dress on with the boning and to hem it and also again check measurements etc.
Then, I came in to pick my fabric and have the organza silk added to the top of my gown to create the soft off the shoulder look I wanted. During this fitting I also picked my lace - so fun! Anita has beautiful laces to choose from, see the up close picture. It’s just so gorgeous.
Once I had chosen the lace, it was all go really. I came in twice before my final fitting. Once to see the lace placement, once for a fitting, to choose my veil and add on extra lace and then I had my final fitting the day before my wedding.
Anita really does put so much love and care in to her gowns. She is very particular with the fit of the gowns so she ensures it fits you the best it can. She is also one of the only bridal stores of her kind, she does not sell her dresses in any other store, and custom makes her dresses herself, in NZ unlike some custom bridal stores.
Anita was the first bridal consultant I went to that made me feel at ease and confident within myself, she also was the only store I went to where I felt the quality of the work and fabrics was reflective of the price. She individual hand sewed all of the lace to the gown which is just crazy, and you can see how it sort of just melts in to the gown perfectly.
I would 100000% recommend Anita to any bride, she is such a kind caring and lovely lady and made the process of creating my dress absolutely seamless, even when I changed my ideas.
I hope this gives people an insight in to what getting a custom gown should be like. It should be made to YOU, not brought in and then fitted to you. You should pick your fabric, your lace, and see the design come to life.

Working with Anita to design my dress was the best experience. When you first walk into their showroom you have an instant jaw drop moment because there are so many stunning dresses on display. She also made the process super easy and stress free which is what you need when you are planning a wedding. It needs to be enjoyable and exciting and this is what Vinka are all about.
I think I had 5 appointments in total and this is to make sure your dress is perfectly tailored to your figure and my dress was nothing short of amazing. I would highly recommend Anita and the Vinka team to any bride I know :)
